Applying for a PECE (Professional Electronics Engineer) License in the Philippines

I recently completed my application for the Professional Engineer License (PECE) after a number of weeks of arduous preparations. I am hoping I'll get the nod of the ECE Board to give me that coveted license soon. For those of you who are planning to upgrade your ECE license to PECE, here are some tips:

1. If you are a licensed Electronics and Communications Engineer (ECE), you need to apply for upgrading to Electronics Engineer (ECE). What you need to do is visit PRC and file an application for upgrading. Pay the corresponding fees and in a month time, you will get your new PRC ID bearing the title ELECTRONICS ENGINEER.

2. After upgrading your license to Electronic Engineer, you can now apply for the PECE license (application without examination). You can easily download the checklist of requirements by visting the IECEP website www.iecep.ph.

3. Complete the checklist of requirements which include the following: Covering Letter (address to BECE Board Chairperson), Application and registration for PECE form, Curriculum Vitae, Copy of Diploma, Professional Experience, Significant Engineering Works, CPE Activities, PRC Certificate of Registration, Valid Professional dentification Card, Certificate of Good Moral Standing fro IECEP, Passport size photos, Applicant Declaration, etc.

4. It is suggested that you compile all the documents in a CLEAR BOOK for better organization and easier reading of the board of examiners. In organizing the application, a Table of Contents is necessary and you need to tab each pages according to your table of contents.

5. You also need to do the following: a. have your certificate of experience(s) and application declaration notarized, b. secure your NBI clearance, c. submit two 2x2 photos in corporate attire (coat & tie), white background with name tag, d. covering letter addres to BECE chairperson (get standard format to IECEP office).

6. Submit three (3) copies of the application (including the original) to IECEP office as soon as you completed all the requirements.

7. BTW, before I forget, you need to be in good standing to the organization before you can apply for PECE, that is, your IECEP membership should be current or otherwise you need to renew it.

8. After completing all the requirements, IECEP office will notify you when to submit the application to PRC. PRC in coordination with the Board of Electronics Engineer will then schedule you for the Oral Examination (interview).
